Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 August 2026

NextLocator is a family location-sharing service. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. It covers our mobile apps and website.

1. Information we collect

Location data

With your permission, we collect precise location (GPS) from your device, including in the background so that family members in your circle can see your position and receive place and safety alerts. Background collection continues while location sharing is enabled, even when the app is closed or not in use.

  • Latitude and longitude, accuracy, speed and heading
  • Location history retained for the period allowed by your plan
  • Arrival and departure events for places you or your circle admin create
  • Emergency (SOS) alerts, including the position at the time they were raised

Account data

  • Display name, phone number, email address and profile photo
  • Authentication identifiers when you sign in with Google or Apple
  • Circles you belong to and your role within them

Device and technical data

  • Device identifiers and push notification tokens
  • Battery level and charging state, used for member status and low-battery alerts
  • Log data such as IP address and timestamps, used for security and abuse prevention

Purchase data

When you subscribe, the app store processes your payment. We receive a transaction identifier, the product purchased and its status. We never receive or store your full card details.

2. How we use your information

  • Show your location to members of circles you have joined
  • Send place arrival and departure alerts, and deliver SOS alerts
  • Maintain your location history so you can review past trips
  • Operate subscriptions, enforce plan limits and prevent fraud
  • Send service notifications such as security and account messages
  • Diagnose faults and improve reliability and performance

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use precise location for advertising or share it with data brokers.

3. Who your data is shared with

  • Members of your circles see your location, battery status and place alerts while sharing is on
  • Circle administrators additionally receive alerts about members arriving at or leaving places
  • Service providers that host our infrastructure, deliver push notifications, send SMS and process payments, acting only on our instructions
  • Authorities when we are legally required to respond to a valid request, or to protect someone's life or safety

If ownership of the service changes, your data may transfer as part of that transaction; this policy continues to apply until you are told otherwise.

4. Your choices and controls

  • Turn off location permission at any time in your device settings; the app will stop collecting position data
  • Leave a circle to stop sharing with its members
  • Delete your account from the app, which disables it and stops further collection
  • Request a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by contacting us

Revoking location permission stops sharing but also disables the features that depend on it, such as place and SOS alerts.

5. Data retention

Account information is kept while your account is active. Location history is retained according to your plan and then removed automatically. When you delete your account we disable it immediately and remove or anonymise associated personal data, except where we must keep records to meet legal, tax or fraud-prevention obligations.

6. Children's privacy

The service is intended for families. Children may be added to a circle only by a parent or legal guardian, who is responsible for consenting to the collection described here on the child's behalf. We do not knowingly collect data from a child without that consent. If you believe a child has been added without proper authority, contact us and we will remove the data.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access to production systems is restricted and authenticated, and location data is only served to members authorised to see it. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, and we will notify you of a breach affecting your data where the law requires it.

8. International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than where you live. Where that happens we take steps to ensure it remains protected to a standard consistent with this policy.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. Material changes will be signalled in the app or by email before they take effect, and the date above will always show the current version.

10. Contact us

For privacy questions or to exercise any of the rights above, email privacy@example.com.

This template covers the disclosures Google Play's Data safety form and Apple's App Privacy questionnaire ask about for a background-location app. Have it reviewed by a lawyer, and replace the contact address and retention periods with your real ones before submitting to either store.
